twist and shout

It’s been a while since I’ve updated about any hair adventures. It basically boils down to – my hair is still a jerk. I’ve tried a billion different conditioners. For now, what seems to work is Tresemme Naturals paired with Garnier Fructis Pure Clean, topped with some Giovanni 50/50 Balanced. My hair’s pretty soft and it smells like I rolled in a fruit basket. That’s always better than the alternative.

My darling Mari convinced me to try twists in my hair. Now, I’m pretty sure I tried once before and failed miserably. I can’t remember exactly but I’m sure either I gave up halfway through or everything just went into high-frizz mode. This time, things went slightly more smoothly, and five hours later, my head was all twisty. I make awkward faces and I apologize on the front end. I tend to make the same weird crooked smile type face, as Anna noted once upon a time, so here are several different variations of that face. I just don’t know what to do for pictures. Also. Random spot on the mirror that I didn’t notice until just now. Apologies for that as well.

I’m fairly certain I like it. It’ll take some getting used to, but if it’s as low-maintenance as I’ve read, then I’ll probably default to it. Eventually I’d like to not suck at it. I could possibly rock twists for my uncle’s upcoming wedding – which, by the way, is on my birthday. How rude.

i love my hair

hair-rah!

Get it? Like hurrah, but…Shut up. At least my hair’s fond of Connecticut.

My hair’s usually extremely dried out. However, the tides are turning, and I approve of this. I’ve been sticking with Garnier Fructis conditioners, as well as this olive oil deep conditioner, and I think that along with not being in a place that’s basically 286% humidity constantly is quite helpful.

Library Day 3

Oooh boy, it’s been a while since I updated, yeah? I am sorry, I’ve been trying to actually do work. That hasn’t been going too well either. D’oh. In any case. In between last time I updated and now, I had another library day, so time to share!

As it turns out, I did have another pair of capris. Not sure I like these as much, though. I love my shoes, though. For once, I didn’t get a close-up, but they’re gray with dark gray, pink, and white polka dots. And a big black button. Yeah. They’re awesome. And for a wee hair update, here’s how that’s going:

Growing…slowly…But hooray for MJ-esque aviators courtesy of Massiel! I should really do a post about the (relatively few) people I mention so that people actually know what I’m talking about. I can’t quite seem to get the moisture thing right with my hair, and I accidentally combed out the curls and my hair is still trying to recover from that. Basically I’m a screwup but I’m still trying. I am determined to have cute hair. Also, this is a detail of my shirt since you can’t really tell from the pic:

A fuzzy black cloud and rainbow! How great is that? The rest of the shirt has lighter gray rain and dots, but I just like the rainbow and cloud because they’re fuzzy. I have this thing with fuzzy items. It’s kind of a comfort to rub them. Unfortunately, rubbing my rainbow looks a little sketch in public, so…

Oh wait, there are my shoes! Cute, no? I was hiding in an aisle reading more feminist books. I’ve come to love that aisle.

I don’t know what this book says but I thought it was an interesting find.

And how cool is this? I love old books quite a bit. I’ll do a separate post about my library day haul later on!

about my hair

My friend Britney runs a website, The Curly Chick. I’m lucky enough to have talked my way into being a contributor there, which is kind of awesome. I’ve only written one thing there so far, but I thought I’d share it here. So, go to this link and read all about my misadventures with my hair from the time I was a wee one up until this point in my life. As a small sampling, here, have a pic of elementary school me.

All I have to say: hooters. Thanks, Mom/Aunt Lisa.
