firsts
For most people, going out to do random things isn’t really something they think twice about. If a person gets the urge to try a new restaurant, they go, no hassle. That’s not how things work for me, unfortunately. Before I moved to Columbus, I reviewed the bus route to the grocery store basically every day for a month, and I STILL wasn’t prepared to actually go without another week’s preparation when the time came. Even in Memphis – a city I lived in for approximately two decades – I hesitated before going somewhere I’d never been before, especially alone. Which is why today is sort of a Big Deal for me.
I woke up this morning and got the urge to go to the Book Loft. I have no idea why; I’ve got more than enough books left to read from my book splurge a few weeks ago. but for some reason, a little voice said, “Go forth! Wander round and gather more books!” To which I replied, “Um. It’s scary out there.” I mentioned this dilemma on Twitter and was told to just go, because the store is amazing. And so, I decided to shower, dress, and go. And I’m so glad I did.
The Book Loft may be my new favorite place outside of my room. It’s cramped – or cozy, if you like – and every little nook is filled with books. No really. Every. Little. Nook. At first, there were too many people in the first few rooms and I started to feel overwhelmed pretty quickly. The deeper I wandered, though, the more thinned the crowd was and the more comfortable I felt. Eventually, I actually started to like the other people being around. It helped that each room had a different type of music playing, and I focused more on listening and browsing than on people getting too close to me. I do so much better with a focal point.
Two and a half hours later, I bought my collection o’ young adult books and made my way next door to Cup O’ Joe. I don’t usually go to coffee shops alone, but I figured, hell, I was out and thirsty. May as well! I got a salty caramel joe freeze, and it was an interesting experience. Usually, I look for the mocha frap equivalent at coffee shops but again, may as well push my limits. And again, I’m glad that I did. Salt and caramel together is something of a shock at first, but I enjoyed it a lot. I sat on my own and flipped through my books, then decided to search for a place to eat.
My phone told me there was a Chipotle nearby, and so I decided to walk. I like walking, I really do. I just don’t like walking when it’s 900 degrees. Luckily, it wasn’t too terribly hot today, and I only sweated minimally (for me, which is basically a drenching for everyone else, damn genes). I got myself a burrito and decided to head home to eat there. I don’t like eating in public because I’ve got the brain crazies. A short wait later and I was home to be cozy with my (disappointing) burrito and my new books. All in all a pretty eventful day!
covet no longer
It’s happened. I’ve fulfilled a longing of mine. I bought the werewolf shoes. They came a few minutes ago. I did pretty well not flipping out and telling everyone that I was getting them. Kat found the zombie counterpart to the werewolf shoes, and I thought, well, maybe I can get them as a “Hey, you’re doing stuff, good job!” treat. Imagine my surprise to see them on sale on Torrid’s site. Imagine further surprise when they still had my size in stock. Now that I’m done worrying about affording things (landlady’s buying the tv, yay!), I thought, you know, I deserve something nice. And bam. My feet are happy.

Oh yes I did put my feet on the wall to have a proper backdrop for this shot. Also, dig my sexy pajama bottoms. I pretty much live in them right now. God bless Old Navy. Almost immediately, I had to take a zillion pictures of these bad boys. So, of course, I’m sharing, because I’m super excited. My feet keep sliding forward in them, though, so I’ll need to put something in them to stop that.

Mini edit: Kat got her shoes today too! Check ‘em out! Hers are zombies.
library day 4
I don’t know how to describe this library experience. I failed to make it to the library last month and instead just rechecked all my books. But I ventured back to the library the other day after shuffling out the door in 20 seconds to hurry for the bus. I actually had really great timing somehow magically. I can’t recall if I mentioned, but I’d decided to focus on specific things to research and become an “expert” on to make my library trips more focused. I was busy listening to my music when I heard someone shout, “HEY!”
Now, when you’re me, and you hear people shout that, you automatically assume you’re about to fall into a pit that’s opened up in the sidewalk. Don’t ask, it’s just how my brain works. So after checking for a surprise pit, I looked to see who was doing the yelling. This guy wanders up to meĀ and starts talking about how he was just singing Michael Jackson to himself because his girlfriend done him wrong. So he then proceeds to question me about whether I’m married or dating or if I have kids, yadda yadda. He then tries to get my number.
And then he follows me around the library. For ten. Minutes.
I think I mentioned before how much I hate for my library time to be disturbed. I also hate when people can’t take a damn hint. Eventually, though, he wandered off sans my phone number, and I went about trying to decide what I would focus on for my next few library trips. I settled on Greek mythology, horror movies, and Queen Victoria. Unfortunately, the library is set up very strangely, so I couldn’t find mythology books. But anywho. I got the few books I wanted, then headed to get lunch and then go home.
On the way home, there was another guy. This does not happen to me. He made small talk for a bit, and he was nice and polite, and then he asked for my number. I don’t understand. Twice in one day? And I must reiterate, I got dressed in 20 seconds. T-shirt. Pants. I didn’t even bother trying to make my hair look nice. I didn’t even remember that I shouldn’t wander outside looking like a mad scientist until halfway to the library. I mean this is what I looked like:

No effort whatsoever. I’m just genuinely confused by this. But….I guess hooray? I dunno. We’ll see. I’m honestly a little more excited about the books I got.
hnt 3
I’m kind of busy lately and thus haven’t updated much. This also leads me to being supremely lazy and taking an old picture to use for HNT.

This is me and one of my favorite hats. Also, my old hair. I kind of really miss having longer hair. D’oh.
omg shoes
I hung out with my good friend Keri yesterday because, despite living around the corner from each other for a while, we barely saw each other because we’re both terrible people. Anyway. There was shoe shopping, and I cannot say no to this. I’m flat broke right now and thus didn’t buy anything, but the shopping and seeing Keri was fun! I also tried dressing…up?

I don’t quite like that shirt. But I tried. Also, my shoes have a whale on them.

While we’re on the subject of shoes…Let me show you some that I tried on! Just consider this one giant C&D post.
